Part 10


He sighed, and walked into the room. How many hours hadn’t he spent here, drinking coffee or beer? Alex shook his head. This started to look like someone was after him. The body was lying in front of a brown leather chair. He recognized the face: His old partner, Tony. The fellow was retired now, after 30 years of duty. He’d guided Alex, trained him, made him the detective he was now. First Kate, now Tony –who would follow? His college friend, Paul? Or would he go after Elena? Fear rushed through his veins and froze his heart for less than a second. Alex kneeled down aside Tony’s shoulder. He would have to give everything to catch this guy. Alex shook his head again and looked around. No signs of a struggle. He saw an entrance wound of a knife in the chest of the victim. It didn’t matter how well he knew Tony, he just couldn’t call him with his first name. ‘First lesson,’ Tony had told him on his first day, ‘always call the victim victim. If you use his name, you get personal involved and you’ll stop thinkin’ straight.’ He noticed a few blood drops on the carpet, probably from the knife. Maybe the same knife who’d killed Kate. Kenneth walked inside and yawned. ‘Jesus Alex. Could you have picked an even earlier hour?’ Alex smirked. ‘Killers do not own a watch when they go out murdering. They come when they come, kill when they kill, leavin’ a mystery to solve.’ Kenneth directed his trainees –Toby and Jared- to wait outside. He turned back to Alex, and putted his kit down. ‘You, my friend, need to get laid pronto. You use difficult words for 3AM, and where’s Nicole?’ Alex shrugged his left shoulder and got up. ‘She’s having a date with the DA. Two years anniversary. They got coffee, want some?’ Ken nodded. Alex walked out of the house. One of the officers was drinking coffee. He stood next to a table, chatting with his partner. Alex grabbed two mugs, and went back. Ken was waiting outside, a cigarette between his lips. ‘Here, your coffee.’ Alex gave him one of the mugs. ‘Merci.’ Alex lent against the brick wall. ‘And, how did he killed Anthony?’ He asked. Ken inhaled deeply from the Lucky Strike before he answered. ‘Single stab wound in the chest. Could be COD, not sure yet. You’ll have to wait till I’ve done an autopsy.’ Both sipped from their coffee. ‘Do you think Elle will get mad if I smoke one cigarette?’ Ken shook his head. ‘One won’t harm.’ Alex nodded. ‘Good. Gimme one pal, I’m desperate for nicotine.’ Kenneth laughed and gave him one. Alex set it on fire and inhaled eagerly. ‘How’s Elena anyway? Is she back yet?’ Kenneth asked. Alex shook his head. ‘She’s still in Argentina, and that’s better now. I have a hunch that this guy’s after me Ken.. First Katelyn and now Anthony. Who will follow? You? Nicole? Elle?’ Both were quiet. ‘Talking about Nicole, don’t you think that you should call her?’ Ken asked. Alex laughed his dry laugh. ‘Do you want me to die? She’s spending time with Rick! Ok, ok, I’ll call, but you will pay for my funeral.’ Kenneth laughed, and Alex walked away a bit. He dialed Nicole’s number and waited. ‘Alexander Gaudet, I’m having amazing sex so give me one damned good reason why I shall not kill you.’ Alex smiled. ‘Sorry Nicky. We have a problem here. Want to see my old partner?’ He heard Nicole sigh. ‘Did you called me for that? Why would I want to see him?’ He could imagine her rolling her eyes. ‘Coz he’s dead. Single stab wound in the chest. No signs of a struggle.’ It was quiet for a while. ‘Shit..’ Dialing tone. Silence.

I had 3 years as well, my German kinda faded, but I can read it pretty well.. If I want xD My French is way worse

I can't speak french, I don't like the language!!! But I can speak Czech and Spanish xD

I had 4 languages at school; Dutch, English, French and German.. I took exams in two of them; English and Dutch. All I can say in French is J'mappele Marjolein, quelle age a tu, common ça va? ça va bien, ça ne va pas, je ne parle pas le français, common tu t'appele? je ne pige pas, tu m'abette. I bet I typed it wrong xD My german is sliightly better

hahahahahahha, I only understood some of them because my friends who speak french teught them to me!!! xD I so prefer Spanish xDDD

Like my Spanish is awesome ._. That's maybe worse than my French xD

The wind picked up, and gave Alex the chills. Not much later a black Chrysler stopped near the CS. Nicole got out, walked around the car to the driver’s seat, lent forward into the open window, and walked his way. The car took off. ‘Thanks for coming so fast Nicole..’ Alex said, and zipped his jacket up. ‘That’s ok.. Are you all right? I mean, I know how much you liked Tony.. He’s your old partner..’ Nicole looked worried at him. ‘I’m fine.. It sucks, but I’ll get through it.. I can’t stop thinking about how hard this will be for his wife..’ he shook his head. Nicole hugged him. ‘We’ll get him, I promise..’ Alex sighed, not moving an inch. Nicole released him. ‘Thanks Nicky.. I hope we will..’ Nicole smiled a bit. ‘C’mon, let’s annoy Ken.’ Alex smiled a tad, and together they walked to Kenneth. He was still leaning against the wall. ‘Hello mon cherie.’ He said, and winked. Nicole smiled. ‘Good morning Ken.’ Kenneth pressed the cigarette against the sole of his shoe. ‘I’ll ask Toby and Jared to bring the body to the office. Tomorrow I’ll do the autopsy, first thing in the morning. Now I’m going to catch a few more hours of sleep. Bye guys.. Take care Alex.’ Alex nodded, an Kenneth left. They walked back inside. The CSU was already progressing the room while Toby and Jared laid the body on a stretcher. ‘Where’s his wife?’ Nicole asked. Alex shrugged. ‘I think she’s on her ladies night out. She always does that on Wednesday night.’ Nicole nodded. She looked around. There wasn’t much to see. Mainly a copy of what they found at the Hollet residence. Suddenly she heard some strange sounds outside. ‘Let me go! Can someone tell me what’s going on in my house? Where’s Anthony?’ Nicole and Alex walked outside. ‘Alex, what happened? Where is Tony?’ Alex moved his eyes from his fingers to the face of the old lady. ‘I’m sorry Dorothy.. Paul, let her go.’ The officer released the arm of the woman. Alex walked to her, and took her with him a bit farther away from the house. He pushed her down on the seat of a patrol car and crouched down. ‘Alex, what is going on? What happened? Why’s the police standing at my house?’ Alex directed his blue eyes on her’s. ‘Dorothy.. I.. I don’t know how to put this..’ She swapped a hand in front of her mouth. It was trembling. Tears formed in the corners of her steal gray eyes. ‘We got a call this morning. Someone saw a man sneaking out of the house. He went to take a look, and saw Tony. Lying on the floor. Dead. Murdered. Dory, look at me. I will give everything in this case. It’s getting personal, and I will not let him murder more people I love, ok? Take good care of yourself. Can you stay with a friend?’ Dorothy nodded. ‘Good, go to her and stay there for a while. I.. I’m sorry Dorothy..’ He got up and wanted to walk away, but her voice stopped him. ‘Alex,’ She said, ‘Please darling, don’t blame yourself, ok? It’s not your fault Tony is gone. It was His decision, and we all have to accept it.’ Tears rolled down her cheeks. Alex nodded and walked away. Nicole had been watching them. ‘Let’s go Nicky. Maybe you can catch a couple of hours of sleep before heading to the autopsy.’ He looked tired. The last three days seemed to be weighing heavy on his shoulders. He felt guilty. ‘You sure? I mean, I could stay with you.. you don’t have to play the tough guy Alex. You really don’t have to..’ Alex shook his head. ‘Go home, it’s an order.’ He looked at her, his eyes harder than normal. 'Fine, if you could give me a ride to Rick’s place.. My car’s still there.’ In silence they walked to his car, and got in. The whole 10 minute drive they didn’t said a word to each other. Nicole got out, and walked to her own car. Alex watched her getting in, and took off. In his head he formed a list of people who could be next. Nicole was one of them.
