Part 17

He paced up and down in the room. His blue eyes were locked on a point in the distance. He had heard about the killings. He knew the woman who’d nearly died. He knew the connection between Nicole and Anthony. He knew Alex. He knew the murderer. He shook his head. It just couldn’t be true. His cell mate looked at him. ‘Kowalski, for God’s sake, will you stop pacing up and down?’ Kowalski stopped walking, and looked at the wall. There was no window, no sunlight, just gray concrete walls. All three were decorated by words of hate by previous prisoners. Behind him was the door. It was made of steal, with a square which could be opened. Kowalski sighed, and sat down on the floor. The man looked at him. ‘Hey man, you ok? You ain’t fainting right?’ Kowalski shook his head. ‘No Ramon, I’m not..’ He looked up, into the face of his cell mate. The brown eyes looked worried, and his long hair had a greasy brown color. ‘What’s up? Somethin’ is bothering you, that’s for sure.’ Kowalski sighed. ‘C’mon Jan, it might help if you talk ‘bout it.’ Ramon said. Jan looked up again. ‘You know about the killings, don’t you?’ Ramon nodded, ‘Some guy killed a niece from that detective, Gaudet or somethin’. His partner is dead too.’ Jan nodded. ‘Gaudet is the one who got me in jail, together with Anthony Girard. The one who did this even tried to kill Nicole Éthier, his new partner.. I know who did this Ramon..’ Ramon raised an eyebrow. ‘No, not me, I wouldn’t even think about asking someone to kill those people. If I wanted to get my revenge, to get even, I’d kill Alexander Gaudet himself, not everyone he loves..’ He shook his head. ‘So, who did it then?’ Jan sighed again, and looked at the ceiling. ‘Kazimierz. Kazimierz Kowalski..’ It was quiet for a while. ‘Hold on a sec. Ain’t that your brother? Your brother is killing ‘em?’ Jan nodded. ‘Yes, and I’m afraid he is not done yet..’

Part 18


Nicole was sleeping. Since the attack, she had nightmares. The guy kept haunting her, his eyes piercing into her’s.. She mumbled in her sleep, and rolled on her other side. Caroline had forced her into therapy, and since she laid here, the lady could come easely. There was nothing Nicole could do about it. The guy approached her again, the knife shinier than before, her reflection even more worried and terrified. His eyes even more full of revenge. His grin even more insane. ‘You’ll pay for everything that scumbag did, Nicole!’ His voice echoed in her head, the sound of it was sickening. The knife came closer, aiming at her chest. He dug the blade into her chest. The pain was overwhelming, even more than she could remember. She screamed, and fell against the wall. Quickly she looked down. Blood flew out of the wound. Life was fading out of her veins. A sound took over the echo of his voice in her head. She knew it was her screaming, but no matter how hard she yelled, she couldn’t awake from the dream..



He looked at the house. The late evening sun set everything in a bright orange color, and threw long shadows on the front porch. She was seated in a rocking chair, her eyes closed, the sun warming her face. He smirked slightly, feeling the power running through his system. It surprised him that he was so calm. A song played in his head, blocking every thought about getting caught or about the fact it was possible she’d survive. His hand reached to his calf, and pulled his jeans up. Soon he looked at his own reflection in the blade of his knife. His blue eyes looked stoic, the anger deep inside them. His nose was long and thin at the top, and getting wider at the end. His lips were a small line. He got up, and walked towards the house. The sun was reflected by his knife. The woman woke up from her late day dream, and looked puzzled at the man approaching her. He grinned wickedly. ‘Can I help you with something sir?’ She asked polite, but her eyes betrayed her fear. ‘Maybe you will be able to be part of the salvation, Dorothy.’ She looked confused at him. ‘Salvation? Of what?’ The man chuckled. ‘The salvation of my revenge. My planned revenge on Alexander Gaudet. The man who took my brother away.’ His voice got a bitter tone. The expression on her face changed. Was that.. angst? Yes, yes it was. How it pleased him to see that emotion. ‘But you know what? I won’t be cruel tonight. I’ll unite you with Anthony, how about that?’ The fear never left her fragile face. Her gray eyes looked frightened at him. ‘They always say, “Till death tear us apart”, but this time it will be “Till death brings us together” my dear Dorothy.’ He smirked, and stabbed the blade in her chest. Her last breath was shallow, the look in her eyes dead. Her body hung limply in her chair. The man took off, becoming part of the falling night, part of a bad dream.
