Part 29

David’s voice was sharp and harsh he was coming now towards us staring fiercely at Eric.
“Dave? What are you doing here?” I asked but he didn’t pay attention to me he went straight away to Eric and pushed him back with a bang.
“I told you to stay away from her! I thought I was clear enough!” he hissed.
“Hey!” I shouted but they both ignored me.
Eric pushed him back “first, she came to me and second, she needs to know the whole truth!” he answered calmly.
“Stop!” I shouted again.
“The truth? Like, the love you feel for her? Really??” David said with irony.
“Yes that’s right, though she already knows that!”
“You son of a...”
“ENOUGH!” I yelled and they finally paid attention to me “Stop fighting please!”
They looked at me Eric with pain in his eyes and David with anger.
“Carol, what the hell are you doing here? I told you to stay inside today!” David asked.
“I… I was… you didn’t say only for today!”
“Why you’re so stupid! I told you it’s dangerous, can’t you just listen to me for once?”
“Don’t speak to her like that!” Eric interrupt anything I was about to say.
“You do not tell me how I speak to my sister! Stay the fuck out of our lives!” he snapped back “and if you’re saying you care why you have her standing there although you know the danger?” he added.
“I told her to go inside, she’s not gonna get hurt if she’s with me!”
“You know they have guns!”
“They won’t hurt her!”
“Then leave her alone!”
For one second everything was silent. I wasn’t even breathing I was too shocked for even talk. They both looked at my shaking body.
Eric made a move towards me so he could calm me but David cut him off, he shoot him an angry glance and then he stood in front of me and touched my shoulders.
“Carol are you ok?” he asked and I breathed.
“Guns?... who are these people?” I whispered terrified.
“It’s nothing you have to be afraid of, we can handle this! They won’t hurt you I promise!”
I glance at him little annoyed- did he really believe that I was afraid about myself?- and then I looked at Eric who was still saying sorry quietly with his eyes.
“Come on, I’ll get you home” David said and turned my body.
“No wait!..” I said and I turned to Eric, I ran towards him and he opened his big arms for me.
“I may be idiot but I believe you, and if those things weren’t true I would still love you as I do now..” I whispered in his ear as his arms tightened around me.
“That’s all I wanted to hear” he whispered back and kissed the end of my neck. Then I felt the light weight of a chain in my right hand “that belongs to you” he added.
“Carol?” David called me impatient.
“Go home” Eric said and pushed me softly back.
I sighed and obedient.
I was walking now with my brother on my side holding the chain with the crystal shiny little heart in my hands as the light of it reminded me a place I wanted to be right then, a safe place that was like my home.. I needed to be there, I had to go…
