omg Dimitra we are thinking sooooooo alike!! Very Happy the mejor reason why i want to be a teacher is the holidays! just imagine how cool will be if you have to work only 7 hours a day for only about 7 months! and don't forget that you won't have to be so tired, i think that everything has to do with children, especially the young ones, is fun!

I guess it's time to return this conversation back to topic. Laughing

14

On Friday I was happy that I didn’t need to go to the graveyard for two days. My back could rest for a moment. But I couldn’t rest in that evening. Some time during the evening I heard a doorbell ringing and after that mom yelled I had a guest there. I yelled back and asked who there was. I didn’t get any answer so I didn’t have any other choice than go down to wonder who wanted to see me. In the hall was standing Pete, who else it could actually be? Could he never leave me alone?
- Well, what do you want now? I asked unfriendly.
- I would like to talk with you about what we already talked yesterday, Pete answered without reacting to my bad mood.
- Ask Petri in for God’s sake, mom interrupted us.
I swore her existence in this planet and asked Pete to come in even I wanted to leave him to stand behind the closed door. He walked towards the living room and I was terrified to notice mom was following after me. I tried to hint her with every kind of ways that I wanted to speak with Pete alone but she didn’t want to notice any of my hints. Mom’s being there made everything more complicated to me.
- I’m not still going to come, I said to Pete right from the start.
- Have you thought about it at all? Pete asked calmly.
- No because I didn’t need to.
- What are you talking about right now? mom interrupted the conversation.
I guessed she didn’t want to stay away from this thing either. Pete told to my mom how he had asked me to be the make up artist of the local Open air theatre.
- What on earth? Our Eveliina making up and making hairdos? Aren’t here much more suitable people to do that? mom started to wonder.
- Exactly! I have thought that too! I said quickly.
- We have searched the suitable person during the all summer. We had an announcement in the local newspapers but nobody was interested. And many who were couldn’t come, Pete explained.
- But that Eveliina. How did you find her? Can Eveliina even make up well enough? mom continued wondering.
Pete looked at me fast a bit confused when I shook my head to him. Mom didn’t have any idea about my skills and I would have liked to keep it as a secret too.
- You’ve seen all those Elina’s fancy hairdos and make ups, I started while trying to think how I should put my words. – I did them, I said fast before I could regret more.
Mom’s face was full of surprise when she understood what I had said.
- You…? Why haven’t you told anything to me? You could’ve done so many make ups and hairdos to me, mom’s thoughts started to run.
- Well, that’s one reason why I didn’t want to tell anything, I said angrily.
Mom was always thinking only herself, the others were coming after her.
- But of course you’re going to accept Pete’s offer, you can have a good experience from there, mom said.
- Mom! You can’t decide about my things! I still don’t have any intentions to accept it, I pointed my last words to Pete.
- Eve…You’re our only hope. The premiere is exactly in a week and we’re in big troubles if we don’t have anyone until that, Pete told.
- Eveliina, listen to Pete now. Why can’t you take the job there? mom interrupted.
- Simply because I don’t want to, I answered angrily.
- Yes, but why? Pete asked quietly.
- It isn’t your business at all! And you wouldn’t even understand if I told you.
- Does it have something to do with the fact that doing make up and making hairdos is too girlish for you? Pete asked after a little silent moment.
- You’re partly right, I answered at last, and I couldn’t help myself to grin when I noticed a surprise flashing in Pete’s eyes.
I guess he couldn’t believe I would confess it.
- I don’t want to take the job because I don’t want that others would know about my skills. It really isn’t my thing, I don’t feel myself as me when I’m doing it, I tried to explain.
- What it matters if others know about it? mom asked wondering.
- Think a bit. Eve, who is too lazy either to do a real make up for school or to make any kind of hairdo, is doing that to others now. There’s a little paradox right there, I explained.
- So it’s still because it’s too girlish, Pete said sounding tired.
- Leave it now when you don’t know anything about anything! I yelled.
This whole situation started to annoy me little by little.
- Why can’t you accept the fact you are and you will always be a girl?! You can’t become a boy just like that doing the same things that boys, Pete answered angrily.
- Oh, I can accept I’m a girl! I yelled, but that doesn’t mean that I should do the same things than other girls!
- Well, if you accept being a girl so you should accept that you can do something that girls do! Pete yelled back.
- Yes I can, if I WANT! I shouted. – Is it so bad to be a girl who wants to do same things than boys!? I yelled before I rushed to upstairs and slammed my door shut.

____________

And I'm sorry once again that I haven't posted new parts lately... Rolling Eyes But now I'm trying to concentrate on this story and post parts every now and then. My final exams are getting closer and closer all the time, I have only 13 real school days left anymore and then I'll have my last exam week. After that is three weeks "studying holiday" and then I should be able to do my final exams.. pale So that's the main reason why I can't write so much anymore, I need to study for my exams and that means less time on computer... Rolling Eyes But I'll do my best and post parts when I can! Wink

I fell down on my bed and squeezed a huge teddy bear against me. Tears were burning behind my eye lids but none of them rolled over my cheek. This thing wasn’t worth crying. Soon the burning vanished and I could breathe freely. Actually it was Pete who had taught me not to show my crying and hide that I was hurt as physically as mentally. Everything had started when we had played together as children. Every time Pete had got me to cry he had looked satisfied and glad. When I finally realized the connection between those two things I tried not to cry when Pete was teasing me. It started to annoy Pete when he realized I didn’t cry as easily as before. Yeah, boys didn’t dare to show their tears, it was a sign of weakness along them. I guess I became same kind of like them, I didn’t cry anymore in front of others.

It really annoyed me that Pete didn’t want to believe what I said. And mom was in his side automatically. Why they couldn’t believe that I didn’t want to be a make up artist of Open air theatre? Was it so hard to understand? Why they couldn’t respect my decision without trying to turn my head with all possible ways?

Somebody knocked on my door shyly. I guessed it was dad, nobody else ever knocked on my door, they walked in straight away.
- Yes, I said and threw the teddy bear to the other side of the bed.
Dad opened the door carefully and came in.
- I couldn’t be without hearing your quarrel, dad started.
- Please, don’t complain about my decisions too! I screamed.
- I’m not doing that, he rushed to explain. – I’m only interested in if you have thought this from theatre’s point of view. Their plays have been good during the other years. And if there isn’t any make up artist this year their quality can be lower. People start to speak and there will be less public in the plays because of bad reviews.
- So should I have a bad conscience if theatre is going down? I sighed.
- I didn’t mean it that way but think about it from other point of view, dad said while he stood up.
- Oh, I almost forgot. Pete is going to come here again on Monday. You got couple of days for thinking.
I nodded to dad before he left and shut the door behind him.
I don’t know if dad’s thoughts helped at all. If I didn’t accept, theatre wouldn’t be so believable than with the make up artist. So actually because of my disagreement the theatre couldn’t do a good play. Really great thing. This was the only thing that missed here, a bad conscience and guilty feeling.

Next day I made up with Vili. It really wasn’t his fault that I had ended up in this situation. But I couldn’t enjoy my free days because only a thought about accepting or not Pete’s suggestion was rounding in my head. Actually I didn’t want to accept it but dad had managed to get me to think about it more. Was it my responsibility to accept what Pete had asked? Mom was still wondering on Sunday evening how I could’ve become a professional make up artist if I had gone to the vocational school. Her thoughts ended up that I could be mom’s private make up artist. When mom thought that aloud, dad yelped and ordered mom to be quiet for once. It was a huge miracle that mom shut her mouth. Maybe it was more because of surprise than demanding voice.

I was normally at work on Monday, came home and ate extra quickly. I knew Pete was going to come during this afternoon or evening so I decided to avoid my house. I left without saying anything but before that I wanted to be sure that the window of my room was open and the ladder was leaning against the wall. Mom and dad didn’t need to know when I was going and coming. I was wandering around the city in the afternoon and after that I invited myself to Vili’s house. I left there when it was already evening about ten o’clock. I thought that Pete couldn’t be my house anymore. Of course I couldn’t be sure about that because I couldn’t see to the front yard when Vili let me out from their back door. I went straight away over the fence to my own garden. I climbed the ladder up and opened silently more the window so I would manage to go inside through it. I thanked once again that our house had big and antique windows so that this kind of night runs were possible. During the years I had learnt to move in and out from the window as silently as it was possible.

There was dark already in the room mostly because the sky was covered with thick clouds. My blinds were also closed so that no light was able to come in from the windows. I walked through the room to my door to switch the lights on when I suddenly heard someone breathing. There was somebody else in this room.

Tadaaa! What a Face

16

I switched lights on suddenly and looked at my bed where the noise came from.
Pete was stretching his arms and was rubbing his eyes looking little surprised.
- Why the hell you’re sleeping in my bed? I was demanding him silently. – Isn’t there enough space in your own one?
- I said I would come here again today and so I did. But you weren’t at home, Pete said blaming me. – I said I would wait you here and then I had obviously fallen asleep…
- You can go to sleep in your own bed now. I’m not talking about anything with you anymore today, said.
- No way, you’ll talk or you’ll cry and talk, Pete was arguing.
I shook my head determined. – You can tell to the director of the theatre that I’ll talk about this only with her, I said strictly.
Pete was glancing at me suspiciously.
- Go now to your own bed, I want to go to sleep, I was hissing quietly.
But Pete didn’t make any move to leave.
- Well? Go!
I didn’t want to raise my voice because I was afraid of mom and dad would wake up.
- Why can’t you talk about it with me? Pete asked.
- I have my own reasons for that. You should be happy that I even agree to talk with someone, I rolled my eyes.
Pete muttered something I didn’t even want to hear but at least he left away without waking the whole house.

I had talked with Vili about it and I had eventually decided I would agree that job but with some conditions. I didn’t want that my name would be published in any leaflets or anywhere. And other employees didn’t need to spread the fact I was there as a make up artist to the whole world. The only weak link was Pete here. He could blurt the fact out anytime. In fact mom was another one. I was pretty sure she couldn’t keep her mouth shut when I was doing something feminine for once. I was sure there would be battles about this in our home.

Next day the director of the theatre show called me in the middle of my work day that she would like to visit my home later that afternoon. I was a bit nervous since I didn’t have any idea what kind of person was going to talk with me.

After my work I said to my mom that the director was coming to our home. I was trying to hint with it that mom should be somewhere else then but she didn’t understand the clue, on the contrary I would say. Mom started to hassle around the kitchen and managed to prepare impressive café service just before the director came. My astonishment was pretty big when there was this rakish, big woman standing on our door. But even the woman’s size couldn’t hide the fact Pete was standing behind the woman. I let them both in, it was only a courtesy reason in Pete’s case.
- Hello! I’m Ulla. And you must be Eve, she introduced herself.
I nodded to her and squeezed her hand as a greeting. I led them to kitchen where mom was waiting with her services. Obviously she got a little shock because of Ulla’s massive size but she didn’t show it outwards. I introduced Ulla to mom at the same time she was pouring coffee to every cup. Ulla started to tell accustomed about what kind of show it was and I was surprised when she told Pete was acting there too. Somehow I had imagined him doing only some background work or something like that, I really didn’t expect he was acting there. Pete was about to choke in his laugh when he saw my amazed look. Points to him. Mom was talking and talking with Ulla, no idea how long about some so meaningless thing. I started to be annoyed little by little because of that situation. They had come here because of me, but even so Ulla was gossiping with mom about some ex-actor. When Ulla drank last bit of her coffee she finally managed to change the subject.
- So, now that all forms are over, we can finally get to the point, she said and winked her eye to me.
Obviously she had noticed how bored I had been.
- At first I would like to see how well you can do the make up. Do you have any instruments? she asked.
- I have something, but they aren’t the best shape of course, I answered.
- Well, I’m sure they’re enough. If you could take them and do a black eye to Pete for a start, Ulla asked.
I nodded and searched all the make ups Elina had left to me. There was all kind of things. I took also a box where was different kinds of facial paints. I went back with my things and pulled a chair next to Pete’s. I asked him to turn his face to me and close his eyes. There wasn’t the best lighting in the kitchen for this but I was satisfied with my results. Pete’s eye was blue enough and I had also made his other eye to look like it would have just healed. The yellowish colour was covering the lower eyelid.
- Mom, can you get a mirror? I asked.
Of course Pete wanted to see the result. When I gave the mirror to Pete he got a shock even he tried to hide that. Now it was my turn to grin happily. Points were equal now.
- This looks real as hell, Pete said and turned his face to Ulla.
She nodded too. – And even in this kind of lightning and all that. But how about a little wound on the cheek? she suggested.
I needed my facial paints now. I mixed red and brown together. I managed to make some kind of wound on Pete’s left cheek.
- You really have violent show if I need to do this kind of things.
- It’s not even…
- Don’t speak! I yelled quickly to Pete who shut his mouth immediately.
- The paint hasn’t dried yet.
I had mixed also some sand in the paint so that the wound would look like real and the sand gave a little scabby image. After a while I tried the paint carefully and I noticed it was already dry. I gave the mirror to Pete again and he was allowed to fancy my results.
- We want you, Ulla said when she saw the wound after Pete had turned his face again to her.
- We can bend the fact that we won’t publish your name in our leaflets. But of course I can’t demand any kind of professional confidentiality from our actors, Ulla said.
Mom looked both of us, one by one trying to understand what we were talking about.
- But of course our Eveliina’s name is going to be in that leaflet. Everyone should know who has done all those good make ups for the actors, mom was protesting.
- Eve, what if we went to talk about this together, all alone, Ulla suggested all of a sudden.
It was a miracle that mom didn’t start to argue with it but started to clean the kitchen while I led Ulla to the living room and pulled the door strictly shut.
- Don’t worry, I’ll take care of your mom so that she’ll understand you decision, Ulla comforted me. – I’m used to handle difficult people.
- That’s good then, I sighed. – Sometimes I don’t have any idea what I was supposed to do with her.
- I can give a couple of good tips some time, but let’s get these other things clear first, Ulla promised.
We managed to agree all the practical things. The first practice would be already tomorrow. Ulla promised to talk with my mom straight away so I fled their conversation to the terrace. I wasn’t allowed to be alone long when Pete appeared next to me face cleaned.
- You broke my great artwork, I sighed disappointed.
- I’m not really keen on scaring people I meet, Pete answered serious.
- You should’ve showed it to your mom. You could’ve tested if it went for real one, I threw.
- I know it would have gone, I was pretty scared myself when I looked at the mirror, Pete confessed. – But you can do that again, he suggested.
- I don’t want to. I’ll go upstairs, I said and got up from the chair I had been sitting.
- Wait, Pete asked and grabbed my other hand.
- Why?
- Why are you behaving so weirdly? Pete asked.
- Weirdly? How’s that? And could you let my hand go? I asked.
- First you’re twitting me, then you’re shouting to me, after that you’re acting normally and then you’re angry and the same again. Why? Pete asked and let my hand go.
- Look at the mirror, I said and marched in.
