Mom had much to say about the play. She analyzed the whole thing so closely that it was a miracle I was even able to go to sleep in that evening. Next day wasn’t any better. I went to the theatre early enough and managed to make up all the actors like I had to. I don’t know what happened during the play but after that when we all had a common palaver how the play had went, Pete was furious as hell there. The palaver was mostly for the actors but of course Ulla wanted to know the opinions of those who weren’t on the stage. Finally I managed to solve that Pete had almost forgotten his line and the other actor had to save the situation. I wasn’t quite sure how big the mistake had been, I guess it wasn’t a big one because Ulla wasn’t angry at him at all. But Pete wasn’t ever content, not especially when he made even a tiny mistake.
When everybody was spending the little break we had, Pete stayed talking with Ulla. I was sorting my things on the table when Pete marched out and the doors shut angrily after him. He muttered something silently when he walked past me. I went to ask Ulla what was wrong with him.
- I don’t know. He made a little mistake in the previous play but it wasn’t that serious. I would say he has problems with women, Ulla answered.
- Problems with women? I laughed sarcastic. – I won’t believe that. I would say he’s angry because of that little mistake. Pete wants to be so perfect, I rolled my eyes.
- I don’t care why he is angry but somebody should calm him down before the next play. Could you try it? Ulla asked.
- Well, I can always try…But I don’t promise anything, I said doubting.
I could only lose my temper with Pete and that way I could piss him off more. I walked out of the building and I had to search Pete for a while. Finally I followed the muttering I heard round the corner of the building. I found him kicking little stones and swearing alone.
- Alright, so what’s the problem here? I sighed and sat down on a box which contained sand for the icy yard in winter.
Pete gave an angry look to me but he didn’t answer. He only continued walking back and fort while murmuring something.
- It can’t be so terrible to forget one line. Besides it didn’t affect the play in any way. Forget it, life continues! I said after I had watched Pete’s walking.
He snorted but didn’t still answer.
- That kind of “I’m feeling pity for myself” –attitude is childish, I said at last.
Pete stopped like he had crushed into wall.
- Firstly, you don’t know anything about it so there is no need to advice me and secondly, I don’t feel pity for myself, he answered.
- Wow. There is some life in you after all, I was amazed before Pete managed to continue his endless walking.
His eyes turned doubting when he tried to think what the hell I was doing there.
- What are you even doing here? Leave me alone! he shouted finally.
- I’ll do that if you are inside after 15 minutes sitting there calmed and ready that I can do the make up for you, I said calmly.
- Don’t you start interfering in my things! Let me take care of my things myself, Pete shouted angrily.
- Well, then you should know pretty well how I’m feeling! I snapped him back.
- What do you mean? he asked surprised.
- But YOU haven’t done anything else than meddled in my things, I said and crossed my arms to my chest and looked at Pete my eyes glancing him angrily.
- But that is…
- It’s not a different thing! I shouted. – Immediately when I think I have managed to get rid of you, you’ll jump back to my life from somewhere.
- So what?
- SO WHAT?! You turn all things upside down and you make me do things I wouldn’t normally do. Tell me, are you going to be here all the time teasing me?
- Well, I have been thinking leaving away in the autumn. I thought I would go to army, you know I have to do the military service, Pete answered calmly.
- Whaat? YOU are going to army? How you can be there under so strict discipline when others are ordering you what to do next? I was laughing.
This reveal had made my day a lot better.
- You don’t even know all that I can do, Pete understated.
- Obviously not, I said sarcastic.
- Well, well, the young couple is fighting here again, a strange voice said behind me. – Are you two ever doing anything else?
I turned around to see who there was. It was Mirkku, I couldn’t understand how she had appeared there.
- First, we aren’t any couple and second, we weren’t fighting, I answered.
- You we just yelling to each other…? Mirkku asked doubting.
So she had listened to our little conversation long enough.
- I guess I need to go inside already… I mumbled when it looked like that Pete and Mirkku were only glancing each other angrily.
- Why do you have to hurry? Mirkku woke up.
- I need to do all the preparations before the next play, I explained quickly and almost ran away.
It seemed that I had to beware Mirkku in the future. Obviously she couldn’t still admit that Pete wasn’t with her anymore. I was sure she would have said a couple of delicately chosen words to me if we had been together. But now I gave Mirkku a chance to solve things between her and Pete. Maybe Pete wouldn’t be so much with me if he had a true relationship.
I had already made some of the actors ready and Pete had come inside too and had started his own preparations for the play. He came whistling to me for the make up.
- You mood is changing a lot nowadays. If you were a middle-aged woman I would say you have a menopause going on, I said.
Pete burst into laughter. – Maybe it’s my luck that I’m not a middle-aged woman, he laughed.
- What was up with Mirkku? I said and changed the subject.
- She wanted me back, Pete said getting serious.
- Well, did you take her back?
- No!
- Why?
- Why should I?
- Well, why you two even were together?
- It was…well, some kind of fun, Pete muttered.
- And Mirkku only took it too serious, I said.
- How do you know that? Pete asked challenging me.
- Mirkku is a friend of Elina and Elina gave me a strict lecture how I shouldn’t interfere in other’s relationships, I explained.
- I don’t want to take Mirkku back… Besides, you have much softer fingers and gentler touch… Pete whispered silently.
I jumped backwards like I would have got a shock. So, that kind of things was rounding in Pete’s mind…
- You can go, you’re ready now, I said him with icy voice.
Pete stood up and grinned with his eyes glimpsing playfully before he left. This whole situation started to be one huge mess. I didn’t understand anything about this.
It would be great for me too if I could leave this place for a while.
