After the torturing class I left to cycle towards the gym. I was there until my floorball practice started at the other side of the building. I was little amazed that so many had come even it was Friday. After the training I took a long and refreshing shower, changed my clothes and dried my hair and did little make up. I had eaten a proper meal at school though I had had some snacks with me which I had eaten after the gym. So I was starving.
I cycled carefully with my huge equipment bag and my stick towards Pete’s house. I didn’t want to enter sweating and puffing so I didn’t hurry. Though I guessed it wouldn’t disturb anyone since I didn’t believe I would know anyone there. I phoned to my dad when I was at Pete’s front yard and asked him to pick me and my stuff up at 20.30. I didn’t want to take the heavy bag and the stick with me in the movies. I could hear the bass sound coming out of the house so I didn’t bother to ring the doorbell. I left my shoes to the hall and hang my jacket into the coat rack. I put my equipment little aside so that nobody would take them. There were already many people hanging around there. The living room was full of young people dancing along the music. I tried to seek Pete so that he would know I was here. I couldn’t find him so I headed towards the kitchen. There was waiting a table full of different kinds of eatable things. I decided to start with sandwich cake so I took a big slice of it. I was hungry as a hell.
- I just thought I saw you here, Pete said behind me. – I didn’t hear the doorbell ringing.
- Maybe it’s because I didn’t ring it, I said and took the first mouthful of the cake. – This is good! I mumbled to Pete.
- Didn’t your mom teach any eating manners? You shouldn’t speak while eating and so on, Pete teased.
- Of course she did but she’s not here at the moment. And you don’t really care about my manners. You’re acting much worse yourself, I said.
- Oh well. I can see that you don’t have any sense of humour. Take something to drink and relax! Pete told.
I looked all drinks there was on offer.
- Your drinks are pretty much some kind of alcohol… I answered.
- But you won’t be drunk if you drink one beer, Pete understated.
- No I won’t but I don’t like beer. You should have something non-alcohol right? I asked.
Pete opened the door of the fridge and examined the content. – Milk? he asked then.
- It’s fine with me, I said and took another plate of food.
Pete shook his head while seeing my plate. – You must eat more than a boy at your age and in addition you’re drinking milk, Pete groaned.
- I like to be different, I grinned and took a long sip from my glass.
- Obviously… Pete muttered.
- PETE! Finally I found you! I heard a high-pitched voice yelling behind me.
I turned around to see who missed Pete that much. It wasn’t anybody else than Mirkku.
- Oh, you’re here too, she continued with cold voice when she noticed me,
- Don’t let me disturb you. I can go away if you want to talk together, I answered and I was ready to leave the place.
- It’s not necessary. Actually this has something to do with you, Mirkku told.
I couldn’t understand what Mirkku wanted to say to me? If this was some kind of “stay away from my future boyfriend” fight, I would run away from the situation.
- Well, I guess I’ll stay then… I muttered and continued my eating.
- I just want to make it clear that you would better stay away from Pete, he’s mine! Mirkku started her speech.
- What I know, nobody can own anybody but I don’t have anything against that you would keep Pete. I don’t need him, I said.
- Good then, Mirkku answered and her eyes were watching me from toes all the way until my head. – You wouldn’t even get him with that kind of look or behaviour. Who young girl would drink milk on Friday evening when there’s better drinks also? Mirkku teased staring at my glass.
- A young person who doesn’t want to spend next day with hangover, I answered coolly. – And I’ll warn you, don’t piss me off anymore, my patience isn’t lasting forever either. And Pete doesn’t like fights in his house that much. The one who starts the fight will fly straight away out of the house and the one isn’t welcome anymore here, I continued. – It would be wise to keep it in mind when you’re talking like that.
- But you’re so thin that you couldn’t even hurt anyone, Mirkku was grinning.
This time it was Pete who answered. – Mirkku, if I was you I would shut my mouth right now.
- Hah, what that kind of flower stick could even do?
I stood up slowly and looked little downwards to Mirkku. I assumed she didn’t remember I was taller than her.
- Maybe it would be best that you would leave me alone now. I’m going in for self-defence sports so it’s pretty easy for me to get rid of you, I said silently and stared at Mirkku’s eyes calmly.
I saw a slight fear in her eyes before she could control herself.
- Well. As you wish, she said like the whole conversation would have been totally indifferent for her. – But Pete, I guess you’ll talk about this with me, she said before she left the kitchen.
- Since when you’ve went in for self-defence? Pete asked.
- Since this moment. I can’t stand people who compare me as a flower stick, I snorted. – I guess I can make coffee for me? I need caffeine so that I’ll stay awake in a movie.
Without waiting for the answer I turned to the coffee maker and prepared strong coffee.
- In the movie? Pete asked.
- Yes. Dad will take me here in half an hour and drops me at the cinema.
- Do you have company there?
- Yes, I have. Vili had some free tickets so I’ll go with him. If you are so interested, I answered.
- I was just curious… Pete was explaining.
- Why didn’t you shut Mirkku’s mouth earlier? I changed the subject going back to the previous conversation.
- She talked with me already today about it so she really wanted to talk with you, not with me like she said, Pete answered.
- You’re an obsession for her, I said.
- Yes, I am, and it isn’t that nice. I hope she’ll settle down when I leave to the army, Pete hoped.
- Yeah, and annoys me because you aren’t here, I sighed.
- It was you who started this, Pete grinned, you should’ve been quiet at the Midsummer so nothing like this would have happened.
- Don’t start that! I yelled. – Mirkku would annoy me even though. She has seen us together so many times that she thinks I’m a competitor for her.
- You aren’t one then? Pete asked.
- No I’m not! You’re my mom’s workmate’s annoying child and I have the strangest obligations towards you.
- You would have one obligation which you haven’t filled yet, Pete grinned.
- And what that’s supposed to mean?
- Every guest must dance one dance with me as a farewell, Pete told. – And this wish is absolute, nobody will skip it.
- But I’m not a guest, so it doesn’t have anything to do with me, I said.
- No way. I invited you so you’re a guest, Pete specified. – So, may I?
I stared at Pete’s stretched arm. How the hell I could prevent this “absolute” wish to become true? I didn’t want to dance with Pete, not at all!
