Capítulo 15


Tony drove with me to the hospital. ‘Shall I call Eva?’ he asked me when they helped me out of it. ‘No.. I just wanna sleep now.. Tell her about it and say that she can come visit me, together with Sam.. I feel like I can sleep for an eternity..’ I sighed. Tony helped me into the hospital. A doctor and nurse were waiting for me. Of course I had to have a medical exam first. I had only wounds around my wrists from the rob, my lip was swollen and blue and some scratches from the fight. Soon they brought me to a room where I could sleep. I didn’t even tried to take my clothes off. ‘I wanna sleep.. And wake up, thinking this was a nightmare..’ I laid my head on the pillow and began to think about nice things. Not much later I fell asleep and the whole thing played like a movie in my head.


The next morning I woke up and rubbed my eyes. First I couldn’t place the room, but soon I knew it again. I had a bandage around my wrists. A woman was sitting on a chair in my room. She looked up from the magazine she was reading. Two blue eyes looked at me. ‘Heya sis..’ One of her eyes was a bit greenish, still from a black eye. ‘Hey..’ She walked to my bed and sat down on the edge. ‘How did you came here so fast?’ I asked her. ‘They called us on the farm.. My number was one of the numbers Dave called a lot, so they tried it. And then they told me that a blonde woman was brought to the hospital.. I asked if they knew her name and when they told your’s, I had to sit down for a moment.. I took the earliest plane to Miami..’ I nodded and she hugged me. ‘Good to see you again Lynn..’ Lynn smiled. ‘I brought someone with me.. This person wanted to see with own eyes if you were allright.’ The door opened and the person walked inside. ‘Morning mate!’ ‘Kevin!’ I began to cry of happiness. He smiled and walked to my bed and sat down. ‘The last time we saw each other you were 19.. I can’t call you a girl anymore..’ He hugged me tight. ‘It’s so good to see you again. Both of you.. I missed you.’ Lynn wanted to know what happened yesterday. I told her everything, even that I shot him down. You could see that she still cared about him. When I told her that he was dead, a tear rolled over her cheek. ‘But when did he hurt you?’ I asked her after I finished my story. Lynn wiped her tears away and said: ‘Like two weeks ago maybe.. Do you remember Kevin?’ Kevin thought deep and said: ‘I think so yes.. When did Mango got her foal?’ ‘Wait, wait.. Mango got a foal?’ They turned their faces to me. ‘Yes.. A brown foal.. He doesn’t have a name yet..’ Kevin took his mobile and showed me a picture of the little horse. ‘Aww! He’s so cute! Can I give him a name?’ Kevin shrugged. ‘Sure.. I mean, Mango’s your horse..’ Lynn nodded. I looked again at the picture of the horse. ‘What about Kiwi? He reminds me of one..’ I smiled. Kevin and Lynn looked at each other. ‘Sure, Kiwi it is then!’ Lynn smiled. Soon her smile disappeared and she ran out of my room with her hand in front of her mouth. I looked at Kevin. ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with her.. She’s like that for like a month and a half almost..’ Lynn came back, whipping her mouth of with a tissue. ‘Kevin, can I talk with my sister?’ Kevin looked at me. After a few minutes and a look he got the hint. ‘Sure.. I’ll get some coffee..’ And he walked out of my room. Lynn sat back down on my bed. I looked at her. ‘Lynn, I don’t know how to ask it so I just do it on the easiest way.. Are you pregnant?’ Lynn looked shocked at me. ‘I.. I don’t know where you’re talking ‘bout..’ She turned her head and looked out of the window. ‘Lynn, look at me.. I know when you tell a lie, and you’re doing it now.. You are, right? Is it from Dave?’ She nodded. Suddenly she burst out on crying. I held her and tried to comfort her. ‘I still loved him Mar.. I still did after everything he had done with you, me.. With Kevin.. He had kicked him in his stomach.. And I’m carrying his child.. I’m too scared to do a test but deep inside me, I know that it’s true.. What can I do now? Keep it?’ I didn’t said a thing. I only caressed her hair. After a while she calmed down. ‘Do you wanna keep the baby Lynn? Although it’s from Dave?’ She let her head hang. ‘I can’t kill this baby Mar.. I just can’t.. It’s a piece of me.. I keep it.’ She smiled. ‘But first you’re gonna do that test!’ I said and she nodded. ‘O my God! I’m going to be an aunt!’ And I hugged her. Kevin opened the door. ‘Can I come back inside?’ We nodded and he walked back inside with a mug coffee. ‘Kevin, mate, I’m an aunt! Well, probably I am.’ He looked confused at me. And then at Lynn. She began to explain it and he began to smile. ‘Congratulations!!’ And he hugged both of us. ‘Let’s hope it’s a girl..’ He said and we all smiled. But I knew he meant it, and Lynn was hoping the same just like me.

Capítulo 16



The next day I left the hospital. I didn’t saw the use of staying longer. I felt fine. My apartment was quite messy. But Eva helped me to clean it. Together with Lynn and Kevin, I went on a holiday to California. Kevin and I learned surfing there and it was really fun. The last year past faster then I thought. Lynn gave birth to a perfect healthy baby girl. She named her after our mother: Lily. Lynn had sent me a few photos of her baby. Lily was so cute; she had the brown hair of her mom, and also her blue eyes. You couldn’t see that Dave was her father.


Soon the day came that I had to leave. My bags were packed, the apartment was sold and I had given my badge to Jason. Eva, Tony, Sam and Jason would come with me to the airport. ‘Too bad I can’t take my car with me..’ I said while we got into Eva’s car. Jason smiled and said: ‘Sorry, but it’s a car from the Miami Dade CSI..’ He got into the car and Eva took off. 15 minutes later we arrived at the airport. ‘Girl, I’m gonna miss you!’ Eva hugged me tight. ‘I’ll miss ya too!’ I hugged her back. Eva released me and gave me a bag. ‘I bought a prezzie for ya.. Hope you’ll like it, but you can return it in Spain. I’m sure they have that store there too..’ and she winked. ‘Muchas gracias!’ And I gave her another hug. Also Tony and Sam got a hug. ‘Take care in Spain..’ Tony said. ‘I will, don’t worry..’ I smiled and turned my face to Jason. ‘What can I say? I’ll miss you too girl.. Take care of yourself, okay?’ I nodded and hugged him. ‘Thanks for everything guys.. Really.’ I took my shoulder bag and walked to the plane. I walked inside and waved for one last time to them. I had a seat at the window. I took my I-pod and began to listen some music. Soon I felt that I was drifting away into sleep. I smiled and fell asleep.

‘… arrived in Spain. Thank you for your faith in American Trans Air. Enjoy your stay!’ I stretched my arms and got up, took my bags and walked out of the plane. The sun shined warm on my face. ‘Hola España..’ I mumbled to myself. I walked into the gate. Ana was waiting for me, together with Basty and Ans. They were all smiling. ‘Hola!’ Ana said. I dropped my bags and hugged her. ‘Hola mom. It’s so good to see you again!’ I released her and walked to Basty. ‘Heya sis! I missed you!’ He smiled and had his arm around Ans. I smiled back and looked at Ans. ‘What do I see? A little Basty or Ans on the way?’ Ans smiled. ‘Yep, a little Basty. You’re gonna be an aunt hon!’ ‘That’s great news!’ I hugged them. Soon we took off to Cádiz. Basty and Ans dropped us there and drove to their own house in Madrid. ‘Tomorrow I’ll search my own house..’ I sighed. ‘That’s okay cariño.. You can stay here as long as you want..’ She smiled and we walked inside. Ana brought me to my bedroom. ‘I hope you like it.. It’s bigger then your other bedrooms, but I earn more money now..’ The room was blue -the same blue as my eyes- and white curtains were hanging in front of the windows. A small gray couch, a bed, bedside table, radio, small TV, closet, desk and two chairs were standing in it. After dinner I took a shower and got into my bed. Immediately I fell asleep.

That was a nice and peaceful part!!! I liked it!!!

Capítulo 17

I was walking in the park, happy to be home. I was back for three days, but I hadn’t seen Mikel yet. Basty told me that he was busy with moving to Madrid. Birds were singing and the sun shined nicely. A few meters in front of me, maybe 5, walked a couple. He had his arm around her. I smiled. They reminded me of Mikel and myself. I passed a bench. Two persons were sitting on it. The hand of the manfigure stroke a lock of hair out of the woman’s face. Something silver and shiny caught my attention and made me stop. The man wore a silver ring. My eyes let it go and I looked at my left wrist. It was a beautiful bracelet with a small plate. Our names and a date were engraved in it. ‘01-06-‘00.. That’s the day you asked me..’ I smiled at him.. How could he?! He took the silver ring out of it. The same date was engraved in it: 01-06-’00. Tears came in my eyes and my head was spinning around. I placed my hand on my head and felt tears rolling over my cheeks. ‘.. I’ll never forget you, and wait till you’re back..’ I turned back to the bench. ‘I’ll never forget you..’ My hands were fists. ‘..wait till you’re back..’ I tapped the man on his shoulder. He looked up. ‘You son of a bitch!’ I punched him in his face. ‘How could you! How?! I thought you loved me!?’ I ripped the bracelet of my wrist and threw it in front of him. He stared at me, with his hand in front of his eye. ‘You’re back?’ He looked surprised at me with his unharmed eye. ‘No, this is my ghost.. Duh! This is the first and the last time you’ll see me.. O, you can keep the bracelet and ring. Maybe your girlfriend likes them though OUR names are engraved in it….’ I turned around and ran out of the park, to my motor. I zipped my jacket up and putted the helmet on my head. ‘Don’t worry my love.. I’ll never try to hurt you..’ I drove to Basty’s house. I needed my brother more then ever now. I parked the motor and waited a few minutes before I walked to the door. I wiped my tears away. ‘Crying about a boy’s a waste of my mascara..’ I muttered and pressed on the doorbell. Ans opened the door, one hand on her belly, a golden ring on her finger. She had some paint in her face and on her hands and clothes. ‘Hola!’ she smiled surprised and happy at the same time. ‘Hola! Is Basty home? I saw the car parked in front of the house..’ and I pointed at the Porsche on the driveway. ‘I’m sorry hon, he left 15 minutes ago.. They’re leaving for their tour..’ I turned around and ran back to the motor. ‘Thanks! Ciao!’ and I putted the helmet on my head. As fast as I could I drove to the airport. When I arrived there, the plane just took off. I slammed with my fist against the window. ‘Damn it..’ I mumbled. Again tears were rolling over my cheeks. I walked outside and drove back to Cádiz. I didn’t said a thing to Ana and walked to my room, shut the door, turned the radio on and laid down on the small couch. Eventually I fell asleep. The next morning I woke up from my cell phone. ‘Maria speaking..’ I tried to open my eyes. ‘Basty called me.. Turn the TV on, TVE..’ I grabbed the remote control and turned the TV on. ‘..had a fight with someone who’s really precious to me.. I hope she sees this. I wrote a song, and I wanna sing if for you chica.. To say I’m sorry, please give me a chance to explain.. Good.. Maestro? Music please..’

His eye was blue-purple-ish. You could see he hadn’t slept much last night. ‘Are you still there Mar?’ ‘Yeah.. Talk to you later.. Bye hon..’ And I hung up. I stared at the TV. ‘I’m begging you to give me the chance to explain.. The person knows who I mean.’ He made a ‘call me’ gesture and walked off the stage. I dialed his number. ‘Give me one damn good reason to listen to you..’

He walked backstage. The others were waiting for him. ‘Now you tell em what the hell happened yesterday. Your eye is blue and you look terrible.’ Javi looked worried at his friend. Mikel sighed. ‘I wanna know too… Ans called me when we were in the air yesterday. Maria wanted to talk with me.. She told me that my sis had been crying…She had mascara under her eyes and they were red.’ Mikel rubbed over his forehead. ‘Stop asking me questions, okay?’ he sat down and opened a bottle of water. He sipped of it and began to talk. ‘She needed a friend to comfort her, so I did.. Her boyfriend just broke up with her and her dad’s ill..’ ‘Who Mikel?’ Ony asked him. ‘Simone.. She’s a colleague from work.. We are only friends! I didn’t tried to kiss her or anything else! I swe-..’ he couldn’t finish his sentence coz his phone rang. ‘Maria! I’m so, so happy that you call me.. please, let me explain.. She isn’t my girl, you are.. She’s my colleague and I only comforted her, really! You are.. You are the only one.. one for me.. I’m so sorry darling.. so sorry..’ He began to cry. ‘But I under-.. Understand if you never wanna see me again..’ He looked up at his friends. Tears were rolling over his cheeks. ‘Like I said in the song, I know it will take time to forgive me but please.. really? Te quiero, te quiero mucho.. Yes.. No.. Over two months. You have no idea how much I miss you.. Besos calientes.. I can’t go earlier.. If I could, I would do it.. I would give everything to see you right now.. I’m sorry guappa, but I have to go now.. I love you very much. Ciao!’ and he hung up. He wiped his tears away. ‘She forgave me! She just..! And I..! It’s..! You have no idea how happy I am right now!’ He sprang up and gave his friends a hug. ‘Good to hear! Can we continue the concert loverboy?’ Ony smiled. Mikel hit him against the back of his head. ‘Let’s do it!’ And they walked back onto the stage. Mikel sent a quick air kiss and a wink into the camera. Basty took the microphone. ‘And our next song is…: SEXY!’ the music began and the guys lost control of their bodies and just danced.

I had just hung up when Ana called me. ‘Maria! There’s someone for you!’ ‘Coming!’ I ran downstairs. I woman stood in front of the door. She had brow-greenish eyes and dark red hair, almost brown. ‘Hola! I’m Simone, nice to meet you!’ She smiled and shook my hand. ‘Uhh.. Nice to meet you Simone, I’m Maria..’ I was a little bit surprised. ‘Can I come in? I think we need to chat about yesterday..’ I looked again at her, and recognized her. ‘Sure, come in.’ We walked into the livingroom and sat down, me on the couch and she on a chair. She putted her bag down on the floor. It was an expensive bag, Prada. Ana walked inside from the kitchen. ‘Honey, I made tea for you two. It stands on the kitchen table.’ ‘Thanks mom.’ Ana smiled and walked to the hallway. ‘Do you want tea Simone?’ She nodded. I got up and got the mugs. ‘Where did you want to talk about?’ I asked her and sipped of my tea. ‘What you saw yesterday in the park.. That wasn’t what you thought it was.. Mikel and I are just friends. He tried to comfort me coz my boyfriend broke up with me the day before yesterday, and then my sister calls me to tell that my dad had a heart attack.. That was just another punch in my face.. And Mikel was really sweet and listened to me.. You are really lucky with him girl. Please say that you made it up!’ She looked shocked at me. ‘That’s awful.. I hope your dad gets better soon.. And I got a call this morning.. My friend told me to turn the TV on. There was their concert, live from Mallorca. Mikel was standing alone on the stage and he told that he had a fight with someone who’s really precious to him. Then he began to sing a song he had written for me.. I called him after it. He was crying on the phone. I forgave him though I’m still a bit pissed on him..’ Simone smiled and putted the mug down on the table. She took her bag. ‘Before he left to Mallorca, he asked me something.. Damn it! I serious need to clean my bag.. Ah, got it!’ she took a small box out of her bag and gave it to me. I stared at her and then at the thing in my hands. ‘C’mon! Open it!’ Curious I opened it. First I saw a piece of paper and began to read.

I looked again into the box. A golden necklace, with a small cross, heart and anchor, was lying in it. ‘Hope, faith and love..’ I smiled and took it out of the box. Simone helped me to put it on my neck. ‘O, before I forget: I had to say this from our Casanova.. ‘I hope your faith in me didn’t died, just like our love: It will last forever..’ Too sweet if you ask me..’ she shook her head and took her mug. I smiled and said: ‘The boys are right: He is a romantico!’ We both laughed. I was still a little bit angry at him but now I understood what happened, I could forgive him sooner. And besides: I’ve never been angry at him for longer then a day. He just uses his irresistible smile and puppy eyes coz he knows I can’t resist that.

Capítulo 20

Simone and I became good friends. She was a sweet girl with a lot of energy. After three weeks I found a house near the beach and also near Ana. It wasn’t big nor fancy. It was a cute and small house, build of white stones. It had a small backyard and a balcony at the master bedroom. My favorite flowers grew in the garden: Roses. White, red, yellow, pink: Almost every color. Also some herbs grew in it. I found work in Cádiz. I worked for the SVU and although it didn’t looked like Crime Scene Investigator, I liked ik a lot.


We were having dinner with the whole family at my place. So Ans and Mikel were also sitting around the table. I made dinner, together with Ana. We were chatting and having fun when suddenly Ans dropped her fork. Her hand went to her belly. ‘Everything okay darling?’ Basty asked her. ‘Yes, yes.. Ahh! I think our baby wants to say hello.. It’s time..’ ‘WHAT?! Now?!’ Basty panicked. ‘I’ll drive.. A: Because Basty drank two beers and B: Coz you’re with the motor, right?’ Basty nodded. I got up and grabbed my car keys. We walked outside and got into the car. I had bought a new one because I had to leave my Mercedes behind. Now I had an Audi Q5. As fast as the speed limit let me I drove to the hospital. Quick we got out of the car and brought Ans inside. It was good that Ana, Mikel and I were with Ans and Basty: Basty was so stressed out that he forgot the most important thing: His wife. Mikel and I took her inside. Basty came running back. ‘I forgot something!’ He was so confused. ‘No worry mate, we have your wife and Ana has the clothes..’ Mikel pushed Basty forward. Not much later a doctor came and took Ans and Basty into a room. Ana, Mikel and I were waiting outside. Ana went to get some coffee for herself. ‘Mar? Do you.. Do you want to have little kids someday?’ He looked at me. ‘Yeah.. Someday.. Now I want to get my life back on the rails.. And spend some time with you..’ I smiled. Mikel smiled back and took my hand. ‘I love you Maria…’ He caressed my hand with his thumb. Ana came back with coffee for Mikel and me. She handed us the mugs and sat down. Just on the moment Mikel and I took a sip we heard some weird sounds in the room. We sprang up and ran to the door. You could hear Basty sing. The door opened and Basty looked at us. He was smiling from ear to ear. ‘It’s a boy!’ He opened the door further and we got inside. Ans was holding a little baby boy in her arms. Ana sat down on the bed and looked at her grandson. ‘I can’t believe I’m a granny now..’ She smiled and a tear of happiness rolled over her cheek. ‘His name is Rafael Lars Piñero Camacho, but we call him Lars.. My nephew has the same name and I adore him so much..’ I looked at the little baby in her arms. He had a blue bonnet on his head, Basty’s nose, Ans her lips: A mixture of both.. Not much later we left mother, son and father alone, and went home. I brought Ana home. ‘I wanna stay with you tonight darling.. I haven’t seen you longer then a few houres after we came back from our tour..’ I parked the car and we walked inside. It was still warm. ‘Shall we go to the beach? I have a present which I haven’t tested yet..’ Mikel nodded and we walked inside. I took the bag Eva had given me and took the wet suit out of it. ‘Since when can you surf?’ Mikel looked surprised at me. ‘I learned it in California, when I was there on a short break with my sister and best friend.. I also took dive lessons there.. The Pacific Ocean is beautiful!’ Mikel still looked surprised. I began to laugh. ‘Man! You saw more of the world then me! The Netherlands, Spain, Australia, America.. I can only dream of making those journeys..’ ‘Darling, you forgot a few countries.. My parents took me and Lynn on vacations to Portugal, Wales, Finland, France, Italy, Lithuania..’ I walked to my bedroom. Mikel followed me. Quick I changed my clothes, took the surfboard of the wall and walked downstairs. We walked to the beach. Mikel sat down on the beach and I ran into the water to catch some waves. After a while I walked back on the beach. Mikel was lying on the sand. He looked at me, with one eye closed. ‘Shall we go back?’ I nodded. He got up and laid his arm around me. Together we walked back to my house. I unlocked the door and Mikel pushed me inside. He closed the door and took me into the livingroom. ‘I can see someone missed me a lot..’ I smiled. Mikel smiled too and pressed his lips against mine. I kissed him back. He tried to take my wet suit off. I helped him to open the zipper. He took it off and pushed me down on the couch. In his eyes shined a boyish mischievous. ‘What’s mister Hennet gonna do now, now he undressed his girl?’ He smiled and said: ‘Enjoy of her..’ He got up and pulled me up. He lifted me in his arms and carried me into the bedroom. Finally we were together again, at least for longer then a couple of houres.

Capítulo 21


Also Hen and Javi got married. Mikel tried to make a couple of Ony and Simone, and after a few forced dates together with me and Mikel they admitted to like each other more then friends. Three months after I came back Mikel took me on a romantic picnic with the motor. He had his own now: A Suzuki.


We were sitting on a hill, with a romantic view on the old castle. Mikel had brought a basket earlier that night. I saw it because we lived together since two months. He had his arm around me and I sat there with my head against his shoulder. ‘It’s so beautiful here..’ I said and sighed. ‘You’re more darling.. You are as beautiful as a rose.. As a soft summer breeze, as one of the most beautiful paintings in a museum. And I wanna be the rest of my life with you..’ He removed his arm and pulled me up. He looked me in my eyes. I saw he was nervous. I also felt butterflies in my stomach as I had a feeling of what would come now. Mikel went down on his knee. ‘We are together for such a long time. We survived a long distance relation, survived jealousy.. We are meant to be together.. At least I think so.. And I hope you think the same about us Maria.. I wanna be with you for a life time, protect you against everything and everyone. I would cross the hottest fire, dive into the coldest ocean, walk a million miles through the desert… I would just do anything to protect you. And the beginning of that list is here.. Let’s start with one simple thing..’ He sighed, closed his eyes and got a tiny black box out of the pocket from his motor jacket. ‘My dearest Rosa Maria Piñero Camacho.. Do you wanna be my wife? Will you marry me?’ And he opened the box. A golden ring was in it, with a small stone. I swapped my hand in front of my mouth. ‘Oh, Mikel.. I don’t know what to say.. Yes.. Yes, of course! Come here silly!’ He got up and kissed me. I kissed him back. Mikel shove the ring on my finger. We both smiled and he wiped a lonely happiness tear of my cheek. We sat back down and continued the picnic. Not much later we began to put the stuff back into the basket and climb on the bike. Mikel started the engine and we drove away. After a while we arrived at a dangerous point. Mikel didn’t saw the black car who came from left, and I got smashed away for five meters. Vague on the background I could hear running footsteps, a car door slamming, the siren of an ambulance and then it’s quiet. I felt how they lifted me up and laid me on a stretcher. Mikel whispered my name. I tried to open my eyes. ‘Mikel.. Mikel.. Please.. Help..’ A tear rolled over my cheek. Finally I opened my eyes and saw him sitting next to me, holding my hand. ‘It will be okay honey.. Shh.. It will all be okay..’ Also he had tears in his eyes. ‘Don’t cry.. Big boys.. Don’t.. It was like I was standing in the air and looked down on myself. At least it looked like me. It was a girl with blonde half long wavy hair, here eyes closed. She was holding the hand of a man, and had a golden ring on her right hand. ‘Is that.. me?’ ‘Yes honey: That’s you. And don’t you like that white dress?’ ‘No! I don’t even wanna be dead! He proposed me! Mom, my life isn’t over yet.. It was just getting started..’ ‘Darling, it’s your destiny to leave earth now.. And come with me and your father..’ ‘I survived a rape, a huge fight, jealousy, a long distance relation with a man who truly loves me and all my bad sides. ‘Mooom! How can you crush his heart! Mine belongs to him, and his to me.. Let me go back, please mom..’ I felt the tears rolling over my eyes. I fell on my knees. ‘Please, I wanna go back.. Back to him.. Back to my family..’

omg.. i can't believe that a tear rolled in my cheek right now! this part was so amazing and sad.. she must live!!!!!

Capítulo 22

I heard Mikel singing quietly a part of a song.
‘Empty spaces fill me up with holes
Distant faces with no place left to go
Without you within me I can’t find no rest
Where I’m going is anybody’s guess

I’ve tried to go on like I never knew you
I’m awake but my world is half asleep
I pray for this heart to be unbroken
But without you all I’m going to be is in.. in.. incom-.. I can’t.. I’m sorry Mar..’ He let go of my hand and buried his face in his hands.
‘How can you be so cruel mom? How?’ The tears were streaming over my cheeks. She looked at me with her warm blue eyes. ‘Go darling.. I see now how much you two care about each other.. Go.. And I wish you all the luck from the world together..’ I still looked at her. ‘But.. I thought that.. Really? I can go back?’ She nodded. She became vaguer by the minute and after a few minutes she was gone. ‘Bye Maria! We love you!’ I tried to open my eyes and mumbled something.

You still wonder if.. if we made a big mistake’ I slowly opened my eyes. Mikel smiled through his tears. I smiled back. ‘You know I’ll never could leave you sweetheart..’ I closed my eyes again. ‘I’m so tired.. So tired.. And my head.. It hurts.. Just like the rest of my body..’ Mikel pressed his finger against my lips. ‘Shh.. It’s allright.. We are almost in the hospital honey.. Then they will stop the pain, and take the tiredness away.. Shh..’ Mikel hushed me until they rode me into the operation room.


Mikel was sitting on a chair, waiting till the moment they would come back out with his girl. He couldn’t take the stress anymore and began to walk. He found a small church inside the hospital. He opened the door and walked inside. Mikel sat down on a wooden bench, somewhere in the back of the church. It was so nicely calm there that he came to himself again. Again he got up and walked to the altar to lit a candle. He folded his hands and began to pray in silence. After a while he sighed and opened his eyes. He got up and walked outside the small room to sit and wait again. He took his mobile and dialed a number. ‘Amigo.. You have to come here.. I have bad news.. Mar and I had an accident..’

Basty and Ana came as soon as they could. The doctors were finally done and the doors opened. ‘Hello sir. I’m doctor Patineau. The surgery went fine. Your wife will be okay and recover perfectly. Her first, third and fourth rib is broken and she had a small crack in her meniscus. Over six weeks from now she will be able to walk with you out of this hospital.’ The doctor smiled. Mikel thanked him and followed my bed into the room. I was still sleeping. Vague I heard someone calling me. ‘Maria.. Maria! Darling, it’s time to wake up..’ I tried to ignore the voice. I was so tired that I could sleep for a lifetime. ‘Come on.. let me hear your sexy voice.’ It made me smile. I tried to hide it but I couldn’t. I opened one eye and also the other. ‘Hola! Welcome back on earth.’ Mikel smiled at me. ‘You have a couple of broken ribs, so be careful with speaking.’ I nodded. My head was painful as hell, must be from the fact I smashed my head on the ground when I was thrown away, and I had a bandage around my knee and chest. ‘How are you?’ I asked him. ‘Only a headache, a bit dizzy, nauseous and a couple of scratched and bruises.’ The door opened and a part of my family walked inside. Ana had tears in her eyes. ‘Mom, don’t cry.. I’m still here..’ I smiled brave. ‘It was close.. Your heart stopped.. I was begging you to come back, and when I lost the hope there was a heart beat again..’ Ana and Basty sat down. ‘How’s my sis doing?’ ‘A few broken ribs, my head is aching and something’s wrong in my knee, but further I’m fine.. O, and I’m engaged.’ I smiled. ‘You sneaky fox! Show me..’ I showed Basty the ring. ‘I’m happy for you honey.’ Tears were floating over her cheeks. ‘So.. Mikel will be family now?’ Basty asked. I nodded. ‘My name will be Rosa Maria Camacho-Hennet. Man, that sounds good.’ Ana smiled through her tears. Again the door opened and also Hen, Javi, Ony, Sabine and Ans walked inside. Even my three months old nephew was there. Ans laid him on my bed. ‘Let’s hope mister Piñero wants to sleep now.. He missed his dad to tell him one of his never ending stories. Sometimes he’s gone for almost three houres!’ Basty blushed and took his son. He started to tell a story and we all listened. ‘A very, very long time ago, there lived a lonely turtle. She was really sad because she didn’t had friends. On a warm sunny day she began to make a walk. After three days she arrived in the next forest, because turtles are very sloooow..’ Ans smiled. ‘Let him.. This can go on for ages..’ ‘Where is my beloved dorky bro?’ Mikel asked. ‘He’s on the sea.. I thought you knew he worked in the navy?’ ‘Yeah, I did.. I only didn’t knew he was away.. But how are you doing? We haven’t talked for months!’ Sabine smiled and answered: ‘That’s what you get when you live in Spain and I in Puerto de la Cruz.. I’m here on a business trip and wanted to visit my old friends. But that I had to meet one like this..’ I smiled back. ‘How are you two?’ I asked Hen and Javi. ‘Can I tell now? I wanna tell and I already had to wait way too long..’ He looked at his wife. ‘Okay, okay. Tell them.. He’s so immature sometimes, but that’s why I love him: He’s just as crazy as I am.’ She chuckled. ‘Are you done making fun of me and my impatient? Good.. Prepaaare! It’s such a good thing! Me.. Is gonna be.. a.. DADDY! Tadaa!’ He smiled widely. ‘No way! Daddy Javi? Mate, that’s wicked awesome!’ Ony said. I smiled about the expressions on their faces. Mikel and I looked at each other. ‘Can I tell? Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease?’ ‘You are still the little child you were on high school, aren’t you? Okay, tell them!’ I smiled. ‘We have also super-wicked-fantastic news! Basty will be my brother-in-law!’ He was almost jumping on his chair. ‘Are you trying to fudging kill me?! First he’s becoming a dad and now you two are engaged?!’ Ony’s eyes were about to pop out of his head. We began to laugh. I laid my hands on my chest to stop my ribs from aching. Soon my laugh changed into coughing. They stopped and looked worried at me. I took a deep breath and calmed down. ‘I’m fine, really..’ ‘I think it’s time for us to leave. I’ll tell Ruben and Isabel that you’re lying here. Probably they will visit you.’ Sabine said and winked. I got a sort of kiss from my nephew. ‘Bye Lars! Aunty Maria will come to play with you soon.. Let’s play a game now, okay? Who’s first asleep.. 1..2..3: Start!’ Quick he closed his eyes and fell asleep. Basty smiled and carried him to the car. ‘I still don’t know how you do that..’ Ans said and she followed them. Hen and Javi gave me a hug –one of his big bear hugs. O, I love them..- and left. Also Sabine and Ony left. Ana gave me a kiss on my forehead. ‘I love you cariño.. Get better soon.’ And she walked out of the room. Like a real nurse Mikel laid my pillows good and pulled the blanket over me. He was about to leave when I said: ‘Mikel? Do you wanna stay here tonight?’ He smiled and walked back. He shove a chair closer to my bed and sat down. Softly he began to sing for me. I began to feel sleepy and closed my eyes. Mikel’s voice was getting vaguer and vaguer until it was quiet.
